Evaluation and Review of FMP

My final outcomes, 6 posters, are representational of the brand which I wished to create. I believe they are attractive and portray all of my original ideas.
The outcomes I have created do differ however from my original project proposal as I wished to create an app and subsequently wasted a lot of time trying to teach myself an unrealistic software.
I have used sketchbooks and a blog to record and reflect upon my learning process, which has helped me talk about my own work and also gain a deeper understanding of what I have created as I am able to explain my reasoning for certain things by drawing it out or expressing my views through my blog.
Targets which have been met through my FMP are:
1. Create a music festival brand
2. Create branding collateral which can be used to advertise my brand
3. Create unique designs which are both intriguing and also engaging
During the final major project, I spent a lot of time wasted on things which were not relevant or which lead to places I didn't want my project to go in so keeping on track was the main development.
Also have some personal problems outside of my FMP and education meant I was restricted on my time spent on the project due to unforeseen circumstances and therefore this drastically reduced my overall output as I had to make my outcomes more realistic and simplify my choices.
Overall, however, I do believe my FMP has been a success in turns of outcomes related to my initial proposal and I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

FMP, final pieces

As this project nears to a close, I began collecting images of old warehouses which I had chosen as the location for my festival as I feel this is relevant to the musical history of the raves which took place in these locations, as the music I will be playing will be somewhat similar to the 90's rave era.
I visited sites such a Battersea Power Station, Benlow Works and The Old a Vinyl Factory.
The images I chose to use for my project are:

Final Major Project, Brand Ideas

As my project has now transformed and I have all the necessary components needed to compose a final piece, I thought it was about time I should share some of my creative process from my sketchbook...

Firstly because of the new name I began sketching various ideas for the festival and began playing with cutting out letters to use and montage together and I enjoyed the look of the cut out typeface however I believe the one above was a little to plain and simple. I needed font which was more edges and had more of an emphasis on my interaction with creating the brand, this lead to the below typeface:
This font was much more interesting and dynamic which is representational of the music being played at the festival.

After scanning the cut outs into photoshop I manipulated and tidied the text to give a more professional finish, I also removed the "music festival" section as I feel, referring back to my Comics Unmasked experience, that this was a little too obvious.
This led to my final logo looking like this:

Comics Unmasked

Another extremely interesting exhibition which I visited was Comics Unmasked at the British Library, this exhibition was unfortunately strict in the fact that I was unable to take photographs however,me exhibition itself gave me an insight into the use of subliminal themes and messages hidden within works. This inspired me to go for less obvious ways of presenting my ideas.

Hello, My Name Is Paul Smith

"Hello, My Name Is Paul Smith", was a very interesting exhibition which offered an insight into the life of Paul Smith and his creative direction

Final Major Project, Week 2

After a (much needed) Easter break, and getting off to a relatively slow start with regards my festival name I eventually managed to settle on a name which I believed to be both relevant and different to give my festival the depth it needed.
I have chosen the name "interact" to work with as I feel this is a representation of the act of meeting people, interacting with the social network elements of my festival and also having an interaction with the music being played, through dancing, singing, tapping your foot etc.

Before this name however, I ran a few ideas past my fellow colleagues and also past some friends and family and another name which came up was ""Cloud". I did sketch out some initial ideas for the cloud name however I felt that this name carried negative connotations of rain and dullness.
There's are the original ideas I had before switching to the name "Interact"

Final Major Project, Week 1

For my final major project, I have chosen the project title of "Music Festival Branding" in which I aim to create a new, fresh, exciting festival brand based around the idea of social networking.
The brand itself and the festival experience will incorporate an influence of social networking in order to meet people, think, Facebook, Twitter, Tinder, LinkedIn etc.
By the end of this week I aim to have a solid based for my research and I have begun this by looking at already existing festivals, such a Creamfields, south West Four, Lovebox, Tomorrowland, Reading and Leeds and Snowbombing. Each festival is unique in its own way and it's from this I wish to create branding for a festival which also has it's own unique twist.

Project 8: Weather

As far as this final project goes for the graphics pathway, I have once again found it extremely difficult to get into to and lacked in idea generation.
The "Weather" project was not one of the most interesting projects we've been given and because of this I got off to a very slow start, despite talking to fellow students and also my pathway tutors, I still struggled to gain a starting point for this project, although I eventually settled on the idea of looking into the immense flooding recieved nationwide in this country throughout this winter.
With a lack of motivation, this project eventually ground to a halt, however once I managed to get back into this project I drew on my experience from the data translation project to create a piece which translated the data of the average january rainfall compared with the rainfall recieved this winter as I believe it was a problem which was being portrayed in the media each day and also I was something which people were seeing on a daily basis.

Although once again, no final piece was created for this project, my idea generation soon picked up and helped me to get a good feel for what I could have created in this project.
I am disappointed by my lack of motivation for this project however I feel I am strongest when presented with a project which gives me freedom to explore an area of my own particular interests, although I understand for the purposes of the graphic design industry this is not always (NEVER) how the industry really works and it is more about making something special out of the projects which are infact the least enjoyable and the hardest to begin.
Overall, I feel this project was my weakest to date and I am disappointed to have to finish this stage of the Foundation course with a project such as this in which I could not fully express my creative potential however, I look forward to starting the FMP Project, as I have chose a subject area which I on extremely great interest to me, Music Festivals

Project 7: Data Translation

For my data translation project I chose to look at something which I have a great interest in, boxing.
As previously mention on the project prior to this I have found idea generation extremely difficult due to my lack of understanding of what it is the brief is asking me to do. However, I soon settled on the idea of looking at the Top 10 Fastest Boxing Knockouts and creating an interactive-style piece.
The interactive concept was to create a chart to represent my data which would the user would be able to press the drop-down micropohones to hear an announcement of the fighters names, the venue and the speed of the knockout while a video will play the chosen fight.
Although not creating a finished piece for this idea, the concept was recieved well during my critique and my fellow students were intriged as to how the finished outcome would work.
This project for me was more about the concept than the finished outcome due to my lack of knowledge with regards interactive media however my designs for the end-piece were as this project could be taken for me.
I enjoyed this project as I was able to choose a theme which I found interesting and which I was able to explore the way in which I wanted to, as a concept for interactive media, which I hadn't looked at previously to this.

This is the mock up for the opening sequence of the interactive media:

Project 6: Wayfinding and Mapping

For this project we had to create a visual mapping communication based on real life context.
I found this project extremely difficult to generate ideas and ultimately lacked in my outcome because of this.
Despite my disappointing start to the project, and after a much needed discussion with one of my pathway tutors I finally settled upon an idea based around the route which I use to walk my dog. This then lead me to look at the different paths both me and my dog take as one is slightly more irratic and the other is more straightforward and tends to stick to the path.
From this is began making hand drawn sketches in my sketchbook which showed the two paths taken, however, I also tried the idea digitally and although my finished piece looks simple, once show in my crit session, my tutor really enjoyed the anonymity and the questionability of the work. In addition to this however, it was agreed that I needed something to add to the piece in order to "finish" it and to give it meaning, although I never got round to defining my final outcome for this project.

Overall, I found this project difficult in terms of idea generation and also idea outcomes, this is potentially due to my lack of understanding for the brief which only became apparent once I began talking to fellow students and tutors, who helped me alot.
